While the names of some music festivals are just plain gibberish (Bonnaroo? Bumbershoot? What?), none are as straightforward as CMJ. The College Music Journal Music Marathon and Film Festival is exactly that—an epic, five-day marathon stretch of more than 1,200 different artists invading more than 75 different New York City venues. We get exhausted just thinking about it.
CMJ 2009, which will fill New York with jams from Oct. 20-24, will feature an overwhelming melange of artists in every genre, mixing up-and-coming acts like Local Natives, The Antlers, Suckers and Deer Tick with more established names like Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and Superdrag.
And now for some statistics for showing off to friends: this year's lineup includes 11 bands with 'love' in their names, five bands with 'blood' and 209 'the' bands, as well as possibly the coolest band name ever, The Dang-It Bobby's.
Below, we've listed enough acts to keep you salivating for CMJ—by no means a complete list. For that behemoth, go here.
