Create a Character for The Simpsons' 20th Anniversary

Calling all cartoonists. Matt Groening is asking Simpsons fans to offer a creative hand for the series’ 20th Anniversary episode.

The show is holding a character-design contest to celebrate its double-decade lifespan, the winner of which will have their character featured alongside Chris Martin in an episode early next year, according to NME.

Although its identity is currently a mystery, the character’s spot in the episode is already firmly set. It will be featured during Homer’s dash to a wedding ceremony, which he is late for after buying a lottery ticket. Oh, Homer, that card.

Character entries can be submitted at TheSimpsons.com/characters, and will be accepted through this Saturday, Oct. 24. The show’s executive producer Al Jean will be judging the competition, and he expects a healthy share of brainstorming in each submission. “It’s gotta be a human being,” said Jean in a statement. “We’ve narrowed it down that much.”

Contestants are asked to provide everything from the character’s name, nicknames, occupation, physical description (including distinguishing features), catchphrases, even its blood type. Jean also suggested that designers equip their character with the generic Simpsons overbite, yellow skin or another shade that exists in the world of Springfield.

The contest winner will be announced in mid-November and will be flown to Los Angeles to team up with The Simpsons’ animation director.
