Sesame Street can make light, kid-friendly fare out of just about anything.
Case in point: the hilarious Sesame Street parody of AMC's Mad Men. A Muppet version of Don Draper holds a pitch meeting with two besuited Muppet underlings to discuss the "Happy Honey Bear" ad account. Draper, much like his AMC doppelganger, is brooding and demanding of his employees, who cower to him in the meeting. The Sesame Street Draper examines their pitches and declares that the first pitch makes him mad, the second sad, and finally, all's well that ends well when he is happy with the final pitch. As usual, Sesame Street contains jokes for adults but is still accessible to kids, working on two different levels. This skit actually uses the word "sycophants" to describe Draper's protegés, and refers to the signature emotional roller coaster of the average episode of Mad Men, descriptions that adult fans of the show will understand.
This is just the latest in a long line of Sesame Street covers of adult TV shows. Check out Sesame Street's "Desperate Houseplants," "Law & Order Special Letters Unit" and "30 Rocks."
