Final Fantasy Reveals Heartland is a Concept Album, Tours

October 6, 2009  |  1:30pm
Violinist and all-around virtuoso Owen Pallett named his band after something so inordinately nerdy we dare not mention its name. The joke's on you if you thought he'd let those well-burnished geek credentials atrophy in the slightest: His upcoming and much-awaited third LP Heartland is going to be something of a sci-fi concept album.

According to Pallett, "The songs themselves form a narrative concerning a farmer named Lewis and the fictional world of Spectrum. The songs are one-sided dialogues with Lewis, a young, ultra-violent farmer, speaking to his creator." Heartland, due out Jan. 12 on Pallett's new label Domino, promises to feature the Czech Symphony, Arcade Fire drummer Jeremy Gara and Nico Muhly.

Final Fantasy will also be touring with none other than the folk grandmasters of The Mountain Goats come November. No word yet on whether Lewis will be making an appearance:
