Flaming Lips to Cover Dark Side of the Moon

Flaming Lips to Cover Dark Side of the Moon

If we had to pick a logical predecessor to The Flaming Lips, could it be any other band than Pink Floyd? Both were underground sensations with a mainstream-audience love affair, both made spacey, freak-out rock and, maybe most importantly, both loved inflatable stage props.

It only makes sense, then, that sooner or later Coyne and Co. would cover Gilmour’s gang. And it looks like that plan is now in the works. The Flaming Lips announced last week at a secret MySpace show that they will record a track-by-track covers album of Floyd’s classic Dark Side of the Moon complete with guest spots from Henry Rollins, Peaches and recent Paste Artist of the Day Stardeath and White Dwarfs.

The Flaming Lips, coming off their just-released and justly-hyped new album, Embryonic, are in prime condition to tackle the space-rock classic, maybe even on the strength of “Convinced of the Hex” alone.
