North Carolina’s tribute to late finger-picking guitarist Eddy Merle Watson, MerleFest (April 29-May 2), has announced its 2010 lineup. Among the dozens of bands that will contribute to the event’s traditional-plus Appalachian genre are Eddy’s father Doc Watson, David Holt, The Lovell Sisters, Elvis Costello and the Sugarcanes, Cadillac Sky, Alberti Flea Circus and many more.
The Avett Brothers will be headlining the event’s final day. The festival will be a homecoming of sorts for the North Carolina-native band, who have lately been basking in the spotlight of their crisp, Paste-approved Columbia Records debut, I and Love and You. The record remained among the Billboard 200 for the past couple weeks now, peaking at No. 16 during its first week.
Tickets for MerleFest go on sale on Nov. 10. The event has been around since 1988 and stands as Wilkes Community College’s primary fundraiser. Read more about the shows at MerleFest.org.
