It hasn’t been very long at all (a mere four months) since Wilco’s latest record, Wilco (The Album), hit stores over the summer. It stands as their biggest-sounding studio record to date, and all the touring hype has apparently made the band itchy for new material.
In a recent interview with Paste, guitarist Nels Cline presented an idea of what they’re considering (and not considering) for their next record. “We’re going to start recording new ideas in January and just start that process and keep it going,” he said. “I know that there have been ideas bandied about, and the rest of it is quips like, ‘Oh, the next record should just be one long drone instrumental,’ and things like that, and you know that’s not going to happen. It’s mostly just cheekiness.”
It’s good to see Wilco thinking ahead, but for now their hands are full with their current tour, where they’re still figuring how to translate Wilco (The Album)’s full sound for a concert setting. “Trying to recreate it live can be an interesting challenge,” Cline said. “I enjoy thinking, although I can’t be sure, that the audience is also enjoying the diverse textures that we’re conjuring.”

For the love of Zeus, stop with the droning. This band is a shell of what it was, and Tweedy's greatest flaw right now is being plain DULL. I had no problem with a lot of his sonic experimentation with Wilco and his other projects, but I just can't care about this anymore.
Who cares anymore? This once-stellar band has become, worse than anything, dull.
Oh Chris,
You must be such an interesting person that you could toss aside music from Wilco. Get over yourself.
I think their recent records are fantastic and don't care who knows it.
I think the last album was great. That's all.
