In honor of a release Paste has been looking forward to since September, R.E.M. will be showing sneak previews of its Vincent Moon and Jeremiah-shot concert documentary in venues across the nation.
This Is Not a Show is also part of the band's upcoming Live at the Olympia in Dublin
CD/DVD set, now set for a Oct. 27 release. The film's concert and
backstage footage dates back to July 2007, as the band began showcasing
new material to family, friends and fan-club members. "We were just trying to do something we hadn't done before, which meant
there was no relaxing during the set," guitarist Peter Buck said in a
statement. "Every second we were
playing something we didn't know all that well. Which was kind of good—there were all kinds of terror elements going on during that show."
More dates are in the works, though theatrical distributor Cinema Purgatorio is also taking suggestions for more show locations. In the meantime, a sneak preview of this, well, sneak preview can be viewed online.
