Scarlett Johansson is confirmed to make her Broadway debut early next year, slating her name among this season’s all-star cast lists.
As Variety reported yesterday, the 25-year-old actress stars opposite Liev Scheiber, whose last Broadway role was in the 2007 production of “Talk Radio.” Together they take on “A View From the Bridge,” an Arthur Miller tale centered around a Brooklyn longshoreman (Schreiber) who becomes obsessed with his 17-year-old niece (Johansson).
With this role, Johansson is just the latest Hollywood actor to seek time under the limelight, following “Steady Rain” co-stars Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman, plus “Hamlet” lead actor Jude Law.
This is also not the first time that a Miller play has set the stage for a Broadway debut. A 1997 production of “A View from the Bridge” cast Brittany Murphy opposite Anthony LaPaglia, more than 10 years before Katie Holmes starred in a production of “All My Sons.”
Previews for this “A View From the Bridge” production at the Cort Theatre begin on Dec. 28, before a 14-week run starts Jan. 24.
