Top Chef: Just Desserts Now Casting

Bravo’s Top Chef will showcase a sweeter side to the franchise come 2010 with a spin off what will specifically put pastry chefs to the baking test.

The new edition will be called Top Chef: Just Desserts_, and will be structured by the same weekly, nail-biting elimination competition of the original, only this time the “cheftestants” will be cooking up after-dinner foods. “Their Achilles heel is usually the desserts,” said Bravo exec VP-general manager Frances Berwick to "_Variety":http://www.variety.com/articl/VR1118010386.html?categoryid=14&cs=1. “As this has gone on, we’ve been thinking that it would be fun to do a ‘Top Chef’ with experienced pastry chefs. We’ve had a few pastry chefs on Top Chef, but they haven’t gone too far. It’s just a different skill.”

Casting for Just Desserts starts this week. Currently no host has been picked out for the show, but Berwick confirmed that final selections will be made over the next few weeks.

The spin off marks the third Top Chef edition, the first being Top Chef: Masters, which is heading into its second season of facing off experienced chefs tournament style.

Just Desserts will look to stand out among the bombardment of shows centered on sweet-tooth concoctions, such as Food Network’s Ace of Cakes and TLC’s Cake Boss.
