Wolfgang's Vault to Release 160 Grateful Dead Concerts, Hundreds More for Digital Download

Wolfgang's Vault, collector of vintage concert recordings, has started to make more of its vast archive for online purchase, starting with the Grateful Dead's May 5, 1970 show at the Fillmore.

Billboard reports the site will triple the size of its current archive by Nov. 3 as it releases two shows per week, adding more than 1,000 titles from 919 artists. Along with more than 160 Grateful Dead concerts, Wolfgang's Vault also plans to release footage from Janis Joplin, Chicago, Jefferson Airplane, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jethro Tull and Stevie Ray Vaughn, among others.

Since 2002, Wolfgang's Vault has acquired more than a dozen concert archives, or nearly 10,000 live shows, while also operating Daytrotter. About 3,200 of these are currently streaming from its website. As for the upcoming releases, they come as "the result of negotiating agreements with performers and record labels that not only acknowledge our ownership of this material but gives us rights to exploit it," said founder and CEO Bill Sagan.

Download prices range from $7.98 to $8.98 for MP3s, and from $11.98 to $12.98 for Flac recordings. Wolfgang's Vault will also introduce a $48 annual membership fee that includes discounts on recordings and unlimited 192k streaming.

The Grateful Dead's May 5, 1970 show at the Fillmore is available for download today through the website's Concert Vault.
