EMI Becomes First Record Label to Provide Hulu-Exclusive Videos

EMI has struck a deal with Hulu to become its first record-label partner, and is set to distribute music videos and concert footage exclusively through the video-sharing site.

To celebrate this launch, plus this week’s release of Norah Jones’ new album, The Fall, Hulu now has a page dedicated to the former Paste cover girl, hosting her latest music video for “Chasing Pirates,” plus footage from her 2004 Ryman Auditorium show in Nashville, featuring Dolly Parton and Gillian Welch.

“We think Hulu is an excellent, high-quality environment and a great place to connect with fans,” Ronn Werre, EMI Music Services president and COO, said in a statement. “We look forward to making more content available from other artists as well.” Such artists will come from Jones’ record label, Blue Note, in addition to Virgin and Capitol.

CNET points out that while such a partnership is new to both EMI and Hulu, it does not mark the first between a record label and video-sharing site. Universal Music Group and YouTube began closing in on a similar deal back in March, though its end result, Vevo, will not launch until sometime next month.
