The Hold Steady, Of Montreal and Dinosaur Jr Help Insound Introduce Mixtape T-Shirt

Over the past couple decades, the mixtape has manifested itself in different forms. Originating as a cassette tape, the word eventually evolved to include the CD, so perhaps it’s not too surprising that its next avenue could be the t-shirt.

Insound has partnered up with designer Andy Dixon of The Chemistry Designs to produce the great mixtape t-shirt on American Apparel. The shirt comes in three themes: “Best Love Songs,” Best Break-Up Songs" and the ultimate creative avenue, “Blank.” The back print of the shirt contains lines where owners personalize the shirt by writing in their favorite and theme-appropriate songs. The shirt even comes with its own Sharpie.

Some bands are joining the fun by customizing their own hand-signed mixtape t-shirts, including The Hold Steady, No Age, Dinosaur Jr, Of Montreal and The Kills. These shirts will be auctioned off on eBay, the proceeds of which will be donated to the nonprofit 826NYC. Check out the shirt auctions on Insound’s flickr account.

If you’d like to order and create your own mixtape t-shirt, head on over to the Insound website.
