Will Desperados be the Female Hangover?

With the roaring box-office success of this summer’s The Hangover, not to mention its planned sequel, you can all but rest assured that studios are being flooded with pitches that begin something like, “It’s just like The Hangover, except…,” even as we type this.

In that vein, new project Desperados is being described as a female version of the Vegas movie, with Isla Fisher apparently eyeing the lead role. The Australian Fisher gained mainstream success in the U.S. in her breakout supporting role in 2005’s The Wedding Crashers, where she played a raunchy and unhinged paramour to Vince Vaughn’s wedding-crashing lothario.

Details about Desperados are still sketchy. The plot released thus far is that Fisher’s character writes a vicious, crazy e-mail to an ex-boyfriend who disappeared immediately after an evening with her. It turns out that the guy went into a coma and is in a Mexican hospital. Fisher and several of her girlfriends travel down to the vacation spot to covertly delete the e-mail before he can wake up and read it.

TV writer Ellen Rapoport (of The Jamie Kennedy Experiment) will write the script. It is being developed at Universal by Mark Gordon (2012, TV’s Grey’s Anatomy) and Jason Blum (producer of surprise horror hit Paranormal Activity).
