Man on Wire Director to Helm Vatican Horror Flick

James Marsh (who won an Oscar for Man on Wire) has signed up to helm the horror flick The Vatican Tapes, about an exorcism gone wrong.

The movie will adopt the ever-popular faux-vérité style of Paranormal Activity and other flicks as it explores the fallout when a series of tapes depicting a botched exorcism leaks from the Vatican, according to THR.

Although the “discovered footage” trope has become a stable cliché of the horror genre, Marsh’s background does make him an intriguing director for the project, since certainly he understands better than most the power of old footage unearthed.
