Shearwater Preps New Album for February Release

Shearwater, once best known for its association with Okkervil River—Okkervil frontman Will Sheff and former member Jonathan Meiburg began the band as an outlet for songs that didn’t quite float in the River—truly stepped out with last year’s stunning Rook, an album of understated (and underrated) beauty. In three short months, Shearwater’s follow-up, and fifth full album, The Golden Archipelago, will be released via Matador.

Matador’s got a pretty wild video (spindly guitars! dramatic-sounding drums! Australian immigration acts?) to preview the album, but here’s Shearwater performing a new song from the record at the recent Fun Fun Fun Fest:
