Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin Celebrate Motown's 50th Birthday
Stevie Wonder is slated to headline a celebration concert on Nov. 21 in honor of Motown Records’ 50th Anniversary, titled Live It Again! The two-night event will go down at Detroit’s GM Renaissance Center and will feature other Motown legends such as Aretha Franklin, Otis Williams and The Temptations, as reported by Mojo.
Wonder joined producer Berry Gordy’s young Motown label as an 11-year-old prodigy in 1961, beginning a successful decade for Gordy as he also signed Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, The Jackson 5 and The Supremes later on.
Alongside the anniversary celebration, festivities will pay tribute to late artists like The Four Tops’ Levi Stubbs, producer/songwriter Norman Whitfield and Michael Jackson.
The concert doubles as a fundraiser, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Motown Historical Museum, headquartered in Motown Records’ original main office in Hitsville, U.S.A.
