New Arcade Fire Album, Shows Coming in Spring 2010

They created two of the Best Albums of the Decade, then teased us with side projects, from orchestral offshoots (Bell Orchestre) to film soundtracks (The Box). But now, after what has felt like a two-year eternity, Arcade Fire is finally ready to resurface in its entirety.

After a single release earlier in 2010, the band will release its third, still-untitled album in May, the follow-up to 2007’s Neon Bible, according to Billboard sources. To create it, Arcade Fire spent six months in the studio working with producer and Neon Bible engineer Markus Dravs, who the BBC and British musician Marcus Mumford outed Tuesday.

“I keep asking Markus how it’s going and he’s like, ‘Yeah, it’s okay’,” Mumford told the BBC, “and I’m like, ‘What are the songs like?’ And he goes, ‘Better’.”

With the album close to completion, Arcade Fire is now considering multiple offers for live shows, and will likely headline a major North American summer festival, according to Billboard. Considering the band was recently named our Best Live Act of the decade, you might say we’re kinda totally psyched.
