For its first live television performance in nine years, Radiohead chose to recreate its In Rainbows opener “15 Step” for the 51st annual Grammy Awards. But where we expected its itchy synth claps, we instead heard and basked in pounding brass, performed no less by the University of Southern California’s Trojan Marching Band. In the words of Paste‘s Nick Purdy, "And damn! if Radiohead can’t even make an American college marching band sound almost avant garde. Impressive."
Close to a year has passed since then, and until now, fans could only relive that moment with just a few low-quality video clips. However, just in time for the holidays, the marching band is releasing a rehearsal recording of that rousing rendition, as a bonus track in its new, two-disc collection of both recent and archival material.
Trojan Legacy, $24.99, is only available through the university’s bookstore and at USCBookstore.com.
