ABC plans to put a new spin on the conventional cop drama series with 1-8-7 Detroit, an hour-long mockumentary that has a camera crew chronicling the cases of Motor City homicide detectives, according to Variety. The show will stand as ABC’s first drama pilot of the year, though it’s also expected to have its funny moments, too.
ABC Studios is backing the project with writer and executive producer Jason Richman, who helped pen 2008’s Swing Vote. Mandeville Films is also behind the project, the studio responsible for USA’s long running Monk, which just wrapped up it’s final season.
As reported by TVSQuad.com, the future won’t be easy for 1-8-7 Detroit, as it follows a line of cop drama flops like Cop Rock and The Unusuals, the latter of which hardly survived a couple months.
