Director Ivan Reitman Confirms: <em>Ghostbusters III</em> in the Works

It’s been over 20 years since Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II first hit theaters, but fans are still holding out for GB3. In 2008, we reported that Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office) were recruited to write a script for the Ghostbusters III reunion flick, and last year, Dan Aykroyd’s comments fanned those rumor flames.

Now there’s confirmation from Ivan Reitman, director of both of the original films, that the script is being revised in preparation for a third installment. “I hope to start shooting in this next year,” Reitman told MTV. If shooting gets under way soon, the new movie could be ready for a 2011 release—which Ghostbuster star Harold Ramis hinted at in a December interview with Heeb.

Ramis also hinted that the original cast—that includes Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Ramis—will be strapping on their ghost-busting equipment for the third movie: “We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too,” he said.
