Hiatus Over, Kanye West Returns to the Studio

Remember that moment in Lord of Rings where Gandalf gets dragged down into oblivion by the Balrog? There’s an allegory somewhere in there for Kanye West’s infamous performance at last year’s VMAs. You know, if Gandalf were a millionaire rapper drunk off his ass on a whole bottle of Hennessy, and Taylor Swift a fire-belching demon. But like Gandalf, Kanye has re-emerged into the daylight (or klieg lights, as it were), older and wiser after some soul-searching in India.

In a blog post composed in the unmistakably exigent all-caps style of vintage ‘Ye, he announced that he will be returning to the studio shortly to begin recording new music: "I will bring you the best I have to offer with the same dedication that Kobe has on the court. It’s funny how so many rappers get worse as their careers stretch out but true poets get better. We will follow in the footsteps of Maya Angelou, Gill Scott Herron [sic] and Nina Simone."

From there, things got a little bit weirder as Yeezy rambled for a few lines about brainwashing, consumerism and the need for the poet to “accurately represent what is happening now, so when the powers that be try to rewrite history, you can always look at our works and find truth and sincerity.” This new material could be the fourth entry in his higher-education-themed discography, the much-rumored Good Ass Job. Or it could be something completely different. Either way, we’re just glad to have Mr. West back.

No word yet on when the showdown with Saruman (50 Cent, maybe?) is happening.
