Overture Films has set Let Me In, the American remake of Let the Right One In, for release on Oct. 1, when it will open in theaters and into the clutches of ravenous fanboys already set on tearing it apart.
If we can cut through the why-are-they-remaking-this-blah-blah-blah for a moment, it’s worth a mention that the mortal boy in the movie will be played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, who took on the tough role as the son in The Road with uncontrived emotion and grace. (Richard Jenkins is also in it, by the way.) And yes, it’s true that the only other movie Let Me In writer-director Matt Reeves has made is Cloverfield, but why would we assume he will make this the same way he did an MTV-era godzilla flick?
Which is all to say, let’s relax for now. This is not a Michael Bay remake. Reeves has said his inspiration for the film is more in the original book than its adaptation, so there you go.
