There’s nothing that brings people together like a little do-gooding. Just take My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and New Orleans’ Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Last year, James joined Tom Waits and others in recording an album to benefit PHJB’s home. The musicians formed a bond, and now PHJB will be joining MMJ OTR (That’s “on the road,” for those keeping score at home.) for a tour of the Southeast this spring.

Preservation Hall Jazz Band will open for My Morning Jacket at nine shows in April and May, including a stop in PHJB’s hometown for a gig at New Orleans’ Jazzfest. “There is an unspoken bond amongst musicians,” PHJB’s leader Ben Jaffe said in a statement today, “one that exists in the notes we choose. Jim’s like our long lost cousin coming home for the first time.”
