If you have a Nintendo Wii you can drive a Super Mario Kart, work out with Jenny McCarthy, join a rock band or test your ninja reflexes all from the comfort of your own living room. And this spring, your Wii will also enable you to stream TV shows and movies directly to your TV, no red envelopes required. Nintendo and Netflix recently announced that they’ve inked a deal that would allow Netflix subscribers to stream Netflix content through their Wii consoles at no extra cost.
Customers will be required to get a free streaming disc (Sign up here.), which, when inserted, will link their TV to the content through the game console. Owners of PS3 and XBOX have had this capability for a while, with the PS3 also using a disc, and XBOX automatically linking to Netflix. Wii doesn’t have the capability to play HD content like XBOX and PS3, but there are rumors in the gaming community that an HD Wii may be ready by the next holiday season.
