NYU Acquires Kathleen Hanna Papers for Riot Grrrl Collection

Feminist rocker icon Kathleen Hanna, of Bikini Kill and Le Tigre fame, has donated an archive of documents to NYU’s Fales Library’s new “Riot Grrl Collection.”

The archive includes documents from the Riot Grrrl movement spanning the years 1989 to 1996. According to “The Official Kathleen Hanna Newsletter,” the collection “will support scholarship in feminism, punk activism, queer theory, music history and more.”

Fales Library seems an appropriate recipient of the collection, given its commitment to preserving artistic and cultural movements through original documents, as in the Downtown Collection, which chronicles the arts scene in SoHo and the Lower East Side during the 1970s.
