Six months ago, Paranormal Activity was a low-budget sleeper (which, incidentally was mostly about sleeping…while being harassed by a demon). The film has since turned into a horror sensation, scaring the pants off audiences while simultaneously shaking $100 million out of those pants. And now a sequel is officially in the works. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Greutert (he of Saw VI, um, fame) will direct and Michael R. Perry will write the script.
Oren Peli, who directed Paranormal Activity, has signed on as producer for the upcoming sequel. Although he’s not directing PA 2, Peli has faith in Greutert and Perry, saying, “These guys get it, and the fans won’t be disappointed.”
There’s no news yet on the sequel’s storyline or characters, but hopefully it will bring more of the same Ouija board-induced, terrifying demonic mischief that we saw in the original. Paranormal Activity 2 is scheduled for an Oct. 22 release.
