Like so many others, Paste has been moved by the tragedy facing the survivors of the Haitian earthquake. We spread the word to many of the musicians we work with via the magazine about launching Songs for Haiti. It’s way to raise money and keep awareness high by offering free MP3s to everyone who donates to help Haiti (through Songs for Haiti or, indeed, any charity). Already, more than 200 artists have donated 250+ songs.
We don’t think people should donate to the relief efforts in Haiti just to get a reward. But this gives Paste and artists a way to help, using the thing we’re most passionate about—music.
100% of money contributed through “Songs for Haiti” will go to relief work via Doctors Without Borders, the Red Cross and Wyclef Jean’s relief effort via his Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund.
In return, donors will be able to access a cache of MP3s through our Download Vault. Songs for Haiti includes tracks by Ludacris, Andrew Bird, Switchfoot, Derek Webb, Dex Romweber Duo, Bruce Cockburn, Josh Ritter, The Welcome Wagon, Joe Pug, Umphrey’s Mcgee, Keller Williams, Disco Biscuits, Bloodkin, Mugison, Deer Tick, Eric Beverly & the Sunday Best, House of Heroes, The Rosewood Thieves, Jason Harrod, A Camp, The Champion and His Burning Flame, The Low Anthem, Jonathan Kingham, Hanson, Gaslight Anthem and so many more. Several of the tracks are unavailable anywhere else.
Click here to donate or to download the songs if you’ve donated elsewhere.

I won't donate since you're giving some of the funds to Yele Haiti. Reconsider the effectiveness of giving money to a charity that has absolutely no experience in disaster relief and I will think again. In the meantime, I invite people who feel the same way to donate directly to the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, or UNICEF.
S, we chose Yele Haiti because we wanted some of the money to go to an organization that was actually based in Haiti and focused solely on Haiti. We chose Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders because of their experience in disaster relief. But you can give to any charity of your choosing and get songs from our download vault. We don't care where you give, just that you do so generously.
Sincerely,

Great organizations, hopefully you can share with Oxfam too. Looks like they are doing the water delivery down there.
I'm with S. I wouldn't give to your effort specifically because of Yele. It's glaringly uninformed of you to associate your effort with them. Also, you (Paste) doesn't even know what you're talking about. Yele isn't based in Haiti. It was incorporated in Florida, but had that dissolved because they don't keep proper financial a trail.
You should do some homework and start over. Otherwise you look pretty silly.
wow...thanks for doing this. It is great to be able to support the folks in haiti as well as musicians who actually care. I have passed along the link to all my like minded friends and family who love good music and good causes.
Is there are a reason why you guys have listed Hanson as part of this, yet they are nowhere to be found in the Download Vault?
(still think this is a good cause, but not liking the false advertising)
Bethany,
The Hanson song is in the vault. You may have to login to see it (that's a bug that we're working on -- all the songs should be viewable to everyone). If you can't see it after logging in, email help@pastemagazine.com.
Thanks,
Tim
Josh, Et al,
I'm so glad y'all are doing this. I submitted a song as soon as I found out, and will help in any way I can.
I learned yesterday that two friends had passed in Haiti - they had been working in an orphanage that collapsed during the quake. It was inspiring to see so many people rally and donate, and I hope people continue to do so, in any way they see fit. Paste has done a wonderful thing here.
Thank you,
Kasey Anderson
I just donated. Good. Then , I got an email saying this is NOT a charitable institution. I feel that I have been mislead. I do NOT want to donate and expect my donation to be returned.
Don't forget the hundreds of indie groups who are raising money for Haiti with their songs!

Here is a song for Haiti written and performed by Haitian musician and earthquake survivor, Jaffa. No big stars, but really from the heart of someone who was there
