Saoirse Ronan Signs On to Be Joe Wright's Teenage Assassin
Saiorse Ronan ruined her sister’s life in her breakout role as a young Briony Tallis in 2007’s Atonement, and her next project will see the angel-faced actress cast as a cold-blooded teenage assassin. Ronan (her first name is pronounced SEER-shuh) is in negotiations to star in Hanna according the Hollywood Reporter, which would reunite her with Atonement director Joe Wright. The movie tells the story of the titular character, a 14-year-old eastern European girl raised by her father to be a killing machine. When Hanna meets a French family who introduces her to a world beyond bullets and blood, she struggles to free herself from the life that has been chosen for her.
The film, written by Seth Lochhead and David Farr, was originally linked to Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle, but swirling internet rumors report he shelved the project to work on a My Fair Lady remake. Boyle is also keeping busy with 127 Hours, the cast of which James Franco recently joined.
Ronan, who is only 15, is setting herself up to give that other young blonde actress, Dakota Fanning, a run for her money as Hollywood’s young “it girl.” Ronan currently stars in The Lovely Bones alongside Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz as Susie Salmon, a murdered girl who helps her family solve the mystery of her death from beyond the grave.
