What do wine making and literacy have in common? Twitter, apparently, and yeah, we’re scratching our heads, too.
Twitter has teamed up with non-profit Room to Read to promote education and literacy worldwide. And what better way to do it than by selling wine?
For $20 a pop, plus shipping and handling, you can have a bottle of Fledgling Wine 2009 Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from California delivered right to your door. Unless you live in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota or Utah, where state laws prohibit the direct shipment of alcohol to residents. (Incidentally, those states also prohibit fun and puppies. Kidding, guys!)
You’ll also have to wait until August. That’s when Fledgling will start bottling their wine, which is made by Crushpad, the Subway of wine making, where users choose the style of wine they want and let Crushpad do the rest. We’re hoping Crushpad’s employees call themselves “wine artists,” but we don’t have any actual confirmation on that.
If this all sounds a little dubious to you, we have a suggestion: Donate twenty dollars directly to Room to Read. Then, take the $12 you saved on shipping and handling, scoot down to your local Trader Joe’s, grab yourself a bottle (four, actually) of Three Buck Chuck and enjoy. The kids in need get some money, and you don’t have to wait until August. Everybody wins!

this is a very poorly written article. it's also three months behind the times. this project was announced in october.
why bother promoting twitter's charitable venture if you're just going to slag it?
and comparing crushpad to subway? lame analogy.
can't believe an editor let this story go to press.
