Vincent Gallo to Play Taliban Member in The Essence of Killing

Cheerful masochist Vincent Gallo is poised to play a Taliban member who flees Afghanistan after killing three Americans and winds up on the streets of Europe in The Essence of Killing, a project for newly rekindled filmmaker Jerzy Skolimowski.

Skolimowski has directed movies since 1960 but has made just a handful in the past couple of decades. (He is also a droll character actor, as his uproarious role in Eastern Promises demonstrated a couple years ago.) Gallo, the endlessly entertaining director of The Brown Bunny, had the title role in Francis Ford Coppola’s fondly reviewed Tetro last year.

The film is currently shooting, but perhaps unsurprisingly, there are no immediate plans for American distribution.
