Barbara Walters Bids Farewell to Her Trademark Oscar Interviews

Barbara Walters Bids Farewell to Her Trademark Oscar Interviews

Much has changed in the movie business in the last 29 years, but one thing remains constant during Oscar season: Barbara Walters’ interview special. Since 1981, the iconic reporter has brought actors into living rooms across America, but the tradition will end after this year, Walters recently announced.

ABC has asked me to keep doing these specials as they have been so successful — and I’m thrilled we have such great stars and have such a wonderful show — but to be honest, I feel like I’ve ‘been there, done that,’” Walters said on The View. This year’s “Barbara Walters Special” will air on March 7, including guests Sandra Bullock and Mo’Nique.

Walters will also take time during this final special to reminisce about favorite moments of previous Oscar interviews. She certainly has enough material to choose from, having interviewed big names like Bette Davis, Audrey Hepburn and Anthony Hopkins, not to mention being the recipient of a private lap dance by Hugh Jackman.

But Walters fans, fear not. The 80-year-old TV staple will still continue to appear on The View, host her annual ABC special The 10 Most Fascinating People and be involved in other ABC projects.
