With the upcoming induction of Iggy and the Stooges into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a remastered Raw Power box set coming in April, and 25 shows on the books for 2010, it seems a good time to revive the Stooges. And if a recent interview with Billboard is any indication, Iggy Pop agrees.
“Once I stared working with Ron and Scott again, it was important to me intellectually that the group be resurrected, not just reunified,” Pop told Billboard. “So that meant we had to be writing and releasing new material.” James Williamson, who collaborated with Pop on Raw Power, “is already on me like a greased cat. He’s sending me riffs, so I did some vocals to a couple of them and it’s starting to sound like something.”
The Stooges resurfaced in 2007 to release the rather disappointing The Weirdness, but things might be better this time. Pop says that among the songs the Stooges are considering laying down are some tracks written in the early ‘70s that were axed by their record label. "Ultimately I’d like to get into the studio with the group and maybe have a couple old songs, a couple new songs and then a little time to just jam and see what happens," Pop says.

Iggy Pop to release jazz album inspired…
It strikes me as either ignorant and/or disrespectful that the death of Ron Asheton is not mentioned in this piece.
How gross is that photo?
