We’ve been telling you about Janelle Monáe since she stole our hearts in mid-2008. Monáe was one of our favorite live acts of the decade, and Paste contributor Steve LaBate even went so far as to wonder if the pompadoured vixen was too good to be human. She’s opened for Of Montreal and Gnarls Barkley, and earlier this week, she announced that she’d soon be releasing new music.
True to her word, you can listen to Monáe’s new song, “Tightrope,” which features a guest verse from Outkast’s Big Boi, right now at Pitchfork. Tomorrow, a companion track titled “Cold War” will be released on Monáe’s website. “Cold War” is a track from her highly anticipated debut LP, The ArchAndroid, due out May 18 on Wondaland Arts Society/Bad Boy. Both songs will be available for download tomorrow via Monáe’s site, and a music video for “Tightrope” is already in preproduction. The ArchAndroid will feature Big Boi, Saul Williams, Of Montreal, Wondaland labelmates Deep Cotton, and the Wondaland Arch Orchestra.
Check out Janelle Monáe on Paste’s Pop Goes the Culture TV pilot, and while you’re at it, vote for Pop to be picked up by new TV network, Halogen.
This summer, Monáe will take to the road with another Paste favorite, Brandi Carlile, as part of the 2010 Lilith Fair lineup. In the meantime, she’s lined up a series of dates around the U.S. in March and April.
