Mia Wasikowska, Judi Dench and Others may Join Jane Eyre Cast

A new big-screen adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic Jane Eyre is being readied for production and is assembling quite the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film, directed by Sin Nombre's Cary Fukunaga, will star Mia Wasikowska as the young governess Jane Eyre and Michael Fassbender as her mysterious employer/love interest Edward Rochester.

Jamie Bell, Judi Dench and Sally Hawkins are also in negotiations to join the cast. Bell would play Eyre's clergyman cousin, John Rivers; Dench is expected to play Thornfield Manor's housekeeper, and Happy-Go-Lucky star Hawkins would play Jane's abusive aunt.

Brontë's novel has been adapted to the screen several times before, most recently in 2006; this year marks the 100th anniversary of its earliest silent-film adaptation, released in 1910.
