Kiera Knightley may have left the franchise, but the Pirates of the Caribbean are still sailing strong. The fourth installment of the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, is due in May of 2011 and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel to 2007’s At World’s End will see Penelope Cruz swashbuckling into Knightley’s place as the beauty of the high seas.

Cruz is reportedly in talks to join the cast as a foil to Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow in a tale centered on the Fountain of Youth. Further details on the plot or Cruz’s character are locked up tighter than a treasure chest, but we do know that Jerry Bruckheimer will return as producer with a script from Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot, who wrote the first three films in the series. Rob Marshall, Cruz’s director in Nine, will helm the project, which is scheduled to begin shooting in Hawaii this summer.
