Mickey Rourke in Talks for Conan the Barbarian Reboot
Mickey Rourke is Hollywood’s most sought-after prodigal son. After virtually disappearing from Tinseltown in the ‘90s while he pursued a boxing career (and repeatedly getting his face beaten and battered in the process), he’s back—and it seems to be all tough-guy roles for The Wrestler star. Already appearing as Whiplash in the upcoming Iron Man 2, Rourke is also in talks for two other action flicks: a remake of 1982’s Conan the Barbarian as well as War of the Gods, which will be set in ancient Greece.
Because the cameras start rolling in early spring for both films, it looks like Rourke will have to choose which to pursue. In the Conan the Barbarian update (titled simply Conan), Rourke would assume the role of Corin, Conan’s father, in the classic film that made Arnold Schwarzenegger famous. If he goes the Grecian route, we might see the actor portray King Hyperion, the ruler of Ancient Greece who battles with the divines.
