John Krasinski and Six Others Vie For Captain America Role
Marvel has invited a reported seven actors to its Manhattan Beach, Calif., headquarters this week to audition for the role of Captain America. Who made it to the top of the list? The Office‘s John Krasinski, for one, along with Smallville’s Michael Cassidy, Brothers’ Patrick Flueger, Friday Night Lights’ Scott Porter, Generation Kill‘s Wilson Bethel and Cloverfield’s Mike Vogel. (Chase Crawford of Gossip Girl fame is also in talks for a tryout, but his spot hasn’t been finalized.)
Apparently, Marvel Enterprises is looking for someone both young and rugged to take on the role of the beloved comic book protagonist; it’s rumored that they also want him to actually be American. The film, which will involve a World War II soldier who’s transformed into the superhero Captain America after an injury, is slated for a summer 2011 release.
