The Show Must Go On: Alexander McQueen Brand to Continue

It was barely a week ago today that fashion icon (and Paste’s number two fashion designer of the decade) died in his home. His untimely death at the age of 40 sent shock waves through the fashion world in the middle of New York Fashion Week. Amid the sadness, fashionistas wondered what would happen to the iconic British brand without its founder.

Robert Polet, president and CEO of the Gucci Group (who owns 51 percent stake in McQueen’s company), announced today the brand will live on without its namesake, according to Vulture magazine. McQueen’s final collection, which was nearly finished at the time of his death, will be shown at Paris Fashion Week in March. “Lee was very proud of the people working in his company, and so am I,” Polet said. “The Gucci group will use its combined resources to ensure the label continues.” McQueen’s successor as designer for the brand has not been named.
