On the Third Man Records website, Jack White has issued a statement about the purported unauthorized use of the White Stripes’ song “Fell in Love with a Girl” in an Air Force Reserves commercial aired during the Super Bowl. The statement placed the music video for the song next to a link to the commercial on Air Force Reserves’ site. It has since been removed.
“The White Stripes take strong insult and objection to the Air Force Reserves presenting this advertisement with the implication that we licensed one of our songs to encourage recruitment during a war that we do not support,” the statement reads. It also stresses that while the White Stripes support the nation’s military, they “simply don’t want to be a cog in the wheel of the current conflict.” According to the statement, the band plans to take “strong action” to stop the ad.
