The release of Tim Burton’s adaptation of the beloved tale Alice in Wonderland has been highly anticipated to say the least, and this past weekend, the movie came out swinging, smashing box office records, including one held by Avatar. The whimsical movie, which was shown on both 2-D and 3-D screens beat Avatar‘s opening weekend numbers by more than $30 million. Alice in Wonderland grossed $116.3 million in the U.S. alone and $210.3 million internationally, far ahead of the weekend’s next highest grossing movie, Brooklyn’s Finest, which raked in $13,500,000. Shutter Island came in third place over the weekend, with $13,300,000.
The movie’s release may also mark the downward slope of Avatar‘s mountain of earnings, as most IMAX screens replaced the blue, braid-adorned Na’Vi with Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts. Now, can Alice keep up the pace?

What happened to Disney? Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland does not compare to the original animation. I remember when I was a child I would watch films like The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians and be amazed! Now, Disney has gone downhill and its films seem to be getting worse and worse as time goes by. If you ask me, many kids websites like Disney's should not be listed on the top category of sites like http://www.twitter.com/dozenkids. Is it time for us to realize that Disney is not really what it used to be and in fact it now scraping the barrel of entertainment?
