Hollywood seems hot for fairy tales all of a sudden. Alice in Wonderland hit the box office with a bang last weekend, and now there’s word that director Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight, Lords of Dogtown) is working on a dark adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood.
Warner Bros. Studios is working with Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company on the project, titled The Girl with the Red Riding Hood. And though there’s no official star for the film yet, the Los Angeles Times reports that Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia, Mean Girls) is in talks to take on the lead role.
The film is a more adult take on the Little Red Riding Hood story, focusing on a town terrorized by an evil werewolf. With Hardwicke on board, the comparisons to Twilight keep growing. She’s been quoted as saying the movie is “wild with all these different secrets and lies, and a murder mystery,” and has also described it as "super-sexy.” Little Red Riding Hood and the phrase “super-sexy”: together at last!
