David Cross to Get Bigger and Blackerer in May

David Cross to Get Bigger and Blackerer in May

He was the delightful Tobias Fünke on Arrested Development. (We’re still waiting for that movie, by the way.) Before that, he was the host of hilarious-but-sadly-canceled sketch-comedy gem, Mr. Show. But David Cross made his name as a stand-up comedian, and on May 25, he returns to the form with a CD and a DVD, each titled Bigger and Blackerer, on Sub Pop.

The album and DVD were taped during two back-to-back shows on the same night at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston. Although there’s a little overlap between the two, they mostly contain different material. So, if you want to hear, say, about Cross’ “gastro-intestinal misadventures with his dog Ollie Red Sox,” pick up the CD. Then again, if musings on “the editorial machinations behind the Bible” are more your speed, the DVD is where it’s at.

Let’s face it, though; you probably want all the chuckles you can get from Paste’s fifth favorite comedian of the last decade. You should probably pick up both.
