Final Shrek Movie to Open Tribeca Film Festival

Final Shrek Movie to Open Tribeca Film Festival

Last year, Woody Allen’s Whatever Works got the honor. In 2008, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s Baby Mama led the way. At this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, the worldwide premiere of Shrek Forever After—the final installment in the tale of everyone’s favorite ogre—will open the event. This fourth Shrek chapter will be the first to appear in 3D, and the vocal lineup from the movie’s previous incarnations (Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas) will be present once again.

This year marks the festival’s ninth anniversary (it was created as a response to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001) and runs April 21-May 2. Fashioned as a way to celebrate the TriBeCa area of Manhattan, which was greatly affected by the attacks, the Tribeca Film Festival strives to both honor New York City as a major filmmaking center and to contribute to the long-term recovery of the city.
