Inglourious Basterds' Christoph Waltz to Direct Film He Wrote
Just because Christoph Waltz wasn’t on America’s radar until his chilling portrayal of “The Jew Hunter” in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds last year doesn’t mean the Austrian actor is new to the scene. He’s been especially prolific on the stage and on TV, and, according to the L.A. Times, now Waltz is taking on the role of writer/director for a German film called Auf und Davon (Up and Away). Waltz has been working on the script (adapted from a German novel of the same name) for a few years, and now—armed with his shiny Best Supporting Actor Oscar statuette—he will partner with Fox International Prods. for the project.
But don’t pencil in a date to see this in U.S. theaters quite yet. We still don’t know if the film—whose central character is a dating show host who falls for a contestant—will be released outside of Germany-speaking countries.
In addition to Waltz’ work on Auf und Davon, he’ll also be appearing in upcoming films Water for Elephants and The Green Hornet.
