Modern Family Director to Helm Russel Brand's Arthur Remake

Modern Family Director to Helm Russel Brand's Arthur Remake

A remake of the 1981 comedy Arthur—a film starring Dudley Moore as a drunken ladies man who must marry a rich woman in order to inherit a share of his family’s fortune—has been in the works for a couple of years now. British comedian Russell Brand will fill Moore’s boozy shoes by taking on the lead role in the updated version.

And it was just announced (via the Hollywood Reporter) that Modern Family director Jason Winer will take on directorial duties. Winer received a Director’s Guild Award for his directing on the Modern Family pilot.

The original Arthur won two Oscars (Best Supporting Actor for John Gielgud and Best Orignial Song for “The Best That You Can Do”). Sounds like you’ve got a lot to live up to, Arthur 2.0.
