For the third consecutive year, Paste magazine has been nominated for a National Magazine Awards in the category of General Excellence. This year, we’re proud to add an additional nomination in the category of Reviews and Criticism for our own associate editor Rachael Maddux.
Maddux was nominated for a series of three 2009 music reviews in Paste: Cold Bore, on Regina Spektor’s Far in July; Brandi, You’re a Fine Girl, on Brandi Carlile’s Give Up the Ghost in September; and Just Peachy, on Laura Veirs’ July Flame in December/January. She will be up against GQ film/TV critic Tom Carson, book critic Jonathan Dee of Harper’s, Los Angeles magazine film critic Steve Erickson and New Yorker book critic Elizabeth Kolbert. Mighty company, indeed. Maddux’s Listen Up music blog can be read every Monday at PasteMagazine.com.
Paste’s General Excellence nomination is for its February (Neko Case), March/April (Greta Gerwig & Joe Swanberg) and July (Stuart Murdoch) issues. They were also our 50th Issue Lovefest, Art-House Powerhouse and International issues, respectively.
Known as the “Ellies,” the award winners will be announced April 22 at a gala in New York’s Alice Tully Hall. Established in 1966, the National Magazine Awards are the preeminent awards for magazine journalism in the United States. More than 300 magazines submitted 1,758 entries this year.

Paste nominated for a second National Magazine…
Congrats to all. You guys have been doing things the right way from the "Save the Paste" campaign to the on point editorial content. And I particularly enjoy Rachel's reviews, especially the one for Brandi Carlile. Keep it up!
