Paste Presents: The 2010 Oscar Takeover

Paste Presents: The 2010 Oscar Takeover

It’s Oscar time, and while we don’t always agree with the Academy’s selections, we appreciate their efforts to highlight the best in film. So we’ve gone a little Oscar-wild today with our predictions of who will win, who should win and who just plain got overlooked. We’ll have a live blog during the ceremony on Sunday, but in the meantime we talk to a bookie about betting on the Oscars, show you what you could buy with Avatar’s box office take, look at how the best-picture nominees are faring overseas and how gender remains an issue at the awards. Michael Saba will try to convince you that District 9 is better sci-fi than Avatar, Sean Gandert salutes the Oscar shorts and Stephen Deusner will explain why actors who portray real people have a better chance of winning that golden statuette. We’ve got a Jeff Bridges slideshow, a Super Impossible Brain-Busting Oscar Quiz and a poll for best picture. We imagine a conversation between the exes in the spotlight: James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow. Plus, a week’s worth of Oscar-related Lists of the Day and a year’s worth of Oscar coverage archives. Check out our full Oscar coverage below, and check back all day as we add stories:
