Roger Ebert Producing New Movie Review Show

Not even cancer (or the loss of his speech that resulted from the disease) could stop Roger Ebert from continuing to pursue his passion for film. In fact, as the film critic wrote on his blog, “When I lost my speech, I speeded up instead of slowing down.” And part of that new-found momentum includes working with his wife Chaz on a new movie-review program.

The long-running syndicated series At the Movies, which originally featured reviews by Ebert and Gene Siskel, was canceled in late March, but that hasn’t deterred the resilient Ebert from working on a new television show, the AP reports.

Ebert wrote on his Chicago Sun-Times blog, “Chaz and I are still going ahead with our plans for a new movie review program on television.” With the popularity of Netflix and other movie rental sites, Ebert believes the audience for a film criticism show is larger than ever before. “When people tell me how many titles they have in their Netflix queues,” he said, "I reflect that until recent years they’d be telling me how many movies never even played in their town.

Details of the new show are still in the works, but according to Ebert the tentative title is Roger Ebert presents At the Movies, and for all those wondering, Ebert promises the iconic “thumbs will return.”
