Showtime and DreamWorks Partner on Movie Deal

Showtime and DreamWorks Partner on Movie Deal

Sure, most TV connoisseurs associate Showtime with its popular original programming like Dexter and Weeds, but the cable network was founded on movies, and they still take up a large part of their airwaves. That’s why when a trio of studios—Paramount Pictures, Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer—abandoned their longtime Showtime alliances to begin a new channel, Epix, they also left behind a rather gaping hole in the network’s lineup.

Enter DreamWorks, a studio whose distribution falls under the ever-vast Disney umbrella, led by seasoned Hollywood director Steven Spielberg and his business partner, Stacey Snider. DreamWorks and Showtime announced yesterday that Showtime will now air DreamWorks films, committing to broadcasting up to 35 of the studio’s titles by 2015.
